Studying of magnetoelastic effects in YFe/sub 10/V/sub 2/ ferromagnetic alloy

In the current paper, the magnetoelastic properties of YFe/sub 10/V/sub 2/ alloy are studied via magnetostriction and thermal expansion measurements. At low field region, the magnetostrictivity of the sample is high and the volume magnetostriction remains near zero. This means that the magnetoelastic energy is field independent at this region and there is no significant energy transfer between the sample and the field. These indicate easy movement of the magnetic domain walls. This is consistent with the zero magnetic moment of Y atoms that, in contrast with the magnetic rare earth atoms, are not able to pin domain walls.
