Performance index for servo drive control based on work-equivalent balance

This paper describes an approach for monitoring closed loop speed control of electromechanical drives. The data of the closed loop is evaluated and concentrated to a performance index, giving a scalar value to measure setpoint change behavior. A power-equivalent measure is calculated on both, setpoint speed and actual values. The absolute integrals are balanced to kind of an efficiency factor. So the controller is assessed by means of additional power consumption. This index is tested in simulations against varying controller settings, excitation and sampling. Following, experiments are carried out and compared to theoretical results. In conclusion features of the index are discussed towards practical implementation and possible improvements.
