Intra-channel pulse interactions in 40 Gbit/s dispersion-managed RZ transmission system

Numerical simulations have been used to investigate intra-channel pulse interactions in a 40 Gbit/s dispersion-managed RZ transmission system for very high map strengths. It is shown that, depending on the launch position or prechirp, two pulses either attract or repel each other. By correctly choosing the launch position the interaction induced timing jitter can be greatly reduced. It is also shown that the timing shift between two pulses is maximum for a map strength of ~10. When increasing the map strength further the timing shift decreases.
