Design Concept and Realization of the Humanoid Service Robot HERMES

To carry out automated service tasks at different places within large working environments, a robot system able to navigate autonomously and to execute commanded manipulation tasks is needed. In this paper the design concept and the realization of a novel service robot named HERMES are described. Its human-like appearance, highly integrated sensors and actuators together with its practical task-related intelligence enable the robot to perform various service tasks. First experiments are reported.
