Measurement of D-D burn region using proton penumbral coded aperture imaging

Abstract The D-D thermonuclear reaction region of a deuterated polystyrene shell target has been imaged for the first time by using proton (3.02 MeV) penumbral coded aperture imaging. A Cr-39 plastic track detector was used as the proton detector because of its high spatial resolution and high registration efficiency. The spatial resolution of the reconstructed proton image was estimated to be 26 μm, taking into account the effects of scattering of protons inside the imploded target and statistical error.
