Studies of Wrinkling Properties of Wool Fabrics

Wrinkle recovery of treated wool fabrics has been studied using TEFO's conic wrinkling method. The treatments investigated include: (a) reacting wool fabrics with crosslinking agent Fixapret CPN (dihydroxydimethylol ethylene urea), (b) annealing, i.e., heating wool fabrics at high temperature and high humidity for longer time; and (c) treating wool fabrics with Synthappret LKF (an isocynate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer). Very marked improvement in the wrinkle recovery of wool fabrics has been obtained after heating wool at 45±1°C and 80±1% RH for at least 48 hr. Wrinkle recovery of wool can be further improved by combination of annealing and Fixapret CPN or Synthappret LKF treatments.
