For reversible railway buffers, gas-hydraulic buffers are mostly used. However, due to increasing demand in energy absorption capacity and in order to satisfy requirements of EN 15551 in static performances, development of hydrostatic buffers using silicone gum is gaining in important. Silicone gum offers compressible characteristics which can be used as spring, whereas it can also provide a damping ability due to its high viscosity laminar flow characteristics. Therefore, silicone gum buffers have high advantage such as simple design and easy maintenance. In order to analyze the dynamic characteristics of silicone gum buffers, this paper suggests a mathematical model applying a continuity equation, dynamic equation and the relation of pressure and flow rate of the non-Newtonian fluid which has shear-thinning characteristics of the gap between the piston and the cylinder body. Also We simulate the dynamic buffer force of hydrostatic gum buffer.
