A Gold Nanocrystal/Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Composite for Plasmonic Heating on Microfluidic Chips

FEG microscope. TEM imaging was performed on an FEI CM120 microscope. The fluorescence spectra of the dye solution inside the channel were recorded on an optical microscope (Olympus BX60) with a 5 × objective (numerical aperture = 0.15). The microscope was equipped with a monochromator (Acton, SpectraPro 2300i) and a charge-coupled device camera (Princeton Instruments, Pixis 512B). A 543.5-nm HeNe laser (Melles Griot) was employed for the fluorescence excitation. A continuous semiconductor diode laser (Jenoptik, JUM2500/50/20) at 809 nm was used for the plasmonic heating. A 570-nm long-pass and a 750-nm short-pass edge filter were placed in front of the monochromator to block the two laser lights. The photos and videos were recorded with a different, computer-controlled camera (AxioCam). A syringe pump (Baoding Longer, LSP02-1B) was utilized to pump the fluid in the channel.
