Multimedia mathematics courseware based on the multiple intelligences model (MI-MathS)

This paper highlights the instructional design model and features of the multimedia mathematics courseware based on the multiple intelligences model (MI-MathS). Multiple intelligences theory defines intelligences as the capacity to fashion products that are of value in any culture based one or more basic information processing operations or mechanisms. MI-MathS is a tutorial courseware that is designed to teach trigonometry for form 4, secondary school students. MI-MathS provides a learning environment where students are adapted to the learning material that matches to their preferred intelligences. In MI-MathS, three different intelligences are used to develop three categories of content: verbal linguistic, logical mathematical and visual spatial. This paper also highlights the usability evaluation of the courseware based on five constructs: effectiveness, learnability, ease of use, flexibility and user attitude. Significantly higher results were obtained for the matched group compared with the mismatched group.
