A sequential approach to the extraction of shape features

Most shape feature extraction techniques require enormous computing resources. This paper presents a framework for the sequential processing of aa image which can be used for extracting a variety of shape features, making only one pass over the image. In addition to the extraction of simple features, such as perimeter and area, the paper also presents algorithms which can be used to extract complex features based on “necks” and segmentation of the boundary.
