Simulation of cold forging by a 2D elastoplastic finite element method with automatic remeshing

Abstract An implicit finite element program has been used to simulate cold forging process. Isotropic material behaviour has been considered and Prandtl-Reuss equation has been used (small transformation theory, Von Mises criterion and associated flow rule) without thermal effect. In order to enable finite element simulation of complex forming process, we have studied remeshing, especially the step of the transfer of state variables where two techniques have been compared. An industrial example is presented to illustrate the finite element code.
