This study aims to explore how the meanings of a newly-coined compound noun nose candy in English, whose first use dates back to 1925-1930, are constructed in the cognitive framework, especially focusing conceptual blending theory. This study demonstrates that conceptual blending theory can be a powerful analytic tool for not only the word formation and the meaning construction of nose candy but also for the semantic shifts of this compound noun. It also suggests that the evolving aspects of the semantic shifts of nose candy over time give us the insight into how cultures can affect our language use and vice versa.
