IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ANTI-DUMPING SYSTEM

Consistent with the Australian Government’s recent announcements detailing improvements to the anti-dumping and countervailing system (refer to http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4227.asp ), the Trade Measures Branch of the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service will, as of today, be known as the International Trade Remedies Branch . The new name better reflects the key function of the Branch to investigate allegations of dumped and subsidised goods and to implement trade remedies (including in the form of additional duties) to remedy the injury caused by these practices. The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service website will be updated in coming weeks to reflect the new title of the Branch. Further, over time, forms, handbooks, instructions / guidelines and notices will be revised in accordance with the name change. Contact details and administrative arrangements within the Branch will remain unchanged. The improvements to the anti-dumping system involve additional staff numbers within the International Trade Remedies Branch to strengthen the administration of the system. The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service will shortly be undertaking a recruitment process to fill these new positions. Applicants with relevant industry experience as well economists, accountants and legal specialists are being sought.
