An automated registration system of non-communicable chronic diseases cases based on multiagent approach

Non-communicable chronic diseases (NCD) registries are essential in order to improve the quality of care and survival for patients. Reliable population based information on NCD incidence, prevalence and survival rates are needed and NCD registries are the only available source. The aim of our research is to develop a multiagent system with the goal of automating the process of registration. The development of the multiagent system uses one of the available agent-oriented software engineering methodologies. The most appropriate methodology for NCD registration is selected based on more evaluation criteria presented in the paper. The analysis-to-implementation procedure of our system, following the INGENIAS approach, consists in the presentation of the concepts: the organization, the internal behavior, the communication between agents, etc. Following the methodology a prototype is implemented. The prototype is tested in a medical center responsible with the cancer regional registry management and the experimental results show the potential of the multiagent approach.
