Modeling and transient performance analysis of a hysteresis IPM motor

A hysteresis interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor is a solid-rotor self-starting hybrid synchronous motor combining both hysteresis phenomena and permanent magnet excitation inside the rotor. The rotor of a hysteresis IPM motor consists of a solid hysteresis ring made of composite materials of high degree of magnetic hysteresis energy per unit volume. High energy density rare earth permanent magnets are buried inside the rotor hysteresis ring. This paper presents the modeling and transient analysis of a hysteresis IPM motor using finite element methods. Electrical equivalent circuits of a hysteresis IPM motor have been presented considering the d-q axis saliency of the rotor. Transient finite element analysis of a 2.5kW 208V 3-phase 4-pole hysteresis IPM motor has been carried out using ANSYS Maxwell Electromagnetic field simulation software. Simulation results are presented and explained in this paper.
