Control of Thickness Profile Whilst Maintaining Flatness in Hot Strip Tandem Rolling

Abstract Methods of modelling and controlling profile and flatness are presented, along with simulation results. The methods for controlling profile are based on explicit manipulation of the strip thickness across its width. However, flatness is controlled by distributing and constraining the profile actuation, such that defects do not occur. The exception is the last stand where flatness is the manipulated variable.
