The Influence of Film Granularity on Image Detail on Radiographs

AbstractMeasurements of modulation transfer function, granularity and the Wiener spectrum of granularity, for a series of radiographic films exposed to X-radiation of various energies between 30 keV and 30 MeV, are described. Proposals are made for specifying film performance in radiography in terms of the MTF and the Wiener spectrum. The relationship of these measurements to earlier studies of inherent unsharpness, to other methods of measuring granularity and to quantum fluctuation effects is discussed.
