Automatic Parameter Calibration for Variable Speed Limits in PARAMICS Simulation Model Using Genetic Algothrim

Simulation technique is commonly used in variable speed limit analysis.To ensure the simulation results of variable speed limits consistent with actual data,this study aims to present methodologies for parameter calibration for variable speed limits in PARAMICS simulation model.Firstly,the study site and traffic flow collection were described.Then,the automatic calibration procedure in the simulation model was introduced.The Genetic Algorithm was programmed in the parameter calibration procedure and the simulation results with Genetic Algorithm were discussed.The results of the study show that the procedure developed in this study is effective for key parameter calibration for variable speed limits during the simulation,and the calibrated simulation results are much closer to the actual traffic data,which improves the simulation accuracy.
