軟口蓋Monomorphic Adenoma (Trabecular Type) の一例

A rare case of monomorphic adenoma of the soft palate is reported. The clinical appearance and histopathological findings of the biopsied specimens were highly suspicious of adenoid cystic carcinoma prior to surgery. A thorough study of the radically resected specimen, however, revealed monomorphic adenoma of the soft palate. The large operative defect of the soft palate was repaired by a lateral tongue flap with satisfactory results: speech and swallowing were almost normal. As there are great difficulties in differentiating clinically and histologically between adenoid cystic carcinoma and monomorphic adenoma, the authers recomend wide resection of this benign tumor in consideration of the poor prognosis for adenoid cystic carcinoma.
