Managers at Work: Developing Novel Catalysts with Six Sigma

Six Sigma, a business process developed at Motorola in the early 1980s, dramatically improves customer satisfaction from products and services by reducing defects during manufacture. Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is the method of developing new products that will result in low defect rates during large-scale production (1,2). Thus, DFSS represents one of the methods by which R&D organizations can apply Six Sigma, whose initial and successful application was in manufacturing, to product design.
