In Table 8.1, electronic stopping powers are given for negatively-charged pions. These results were calculated according to Bethe's theory with shell, Barkas, Bloch and density-effect corrections as described in Section 2. The data are given at 66 energies between 0.1 to 400 MeV, for 9 elements and 11 compounds and mixtures. The corresponding csda ranges are given in Table 8.2. It was necessary to use a rough estimate of the pion ranges at the bottom energy, 0.1 MeV, which was obtained by applying the scaling relation, Eq. (7.3), to the ranges of protons with the same velocity.
