Switching dynamics of suspended mesogenic polymer microspheres

Ordered polymer microspheres were produced by photo-polymerizing reactive nematic liquid crystal droplets suspended in glycerol, thus capturing the mesogenic order indefinitely. The electro-optic switching of these structures suspended in a fluid is investigated and described by a simple phenomenological model.
