Microscopic observation on mycorrhiza of Doritis pulcherrima.

Orchidaceous mycorhiza not only has significant effects on seeding and protocorm's growth, but also plays important roles in adult stage growth of orchids including achlorophyllous leafless terrestrial orchids. To investigate the mycorrhizal characteristics and the dynamic invading process of Doritis pulcherrima, an endemic species in Southeast Asia, materials from three different developmental stages (leafing, flowering-fruiting, and senescence-dormancy) in two ecotypes were chosen. The mycorhizae were observed by electron microscope. The results showed that mycorrhizal fungi and adult orchid plant have close relations; the invading, colonizing and digesting extents changed with the development of plant; fungal thallus coils were observed from leafing to
