Outbreak of aspergillosis in a flock of adult ostriches (Struthio camelus)

THE number of ostrich farms has increased in Europe over the past few years in order to satisfy demand for ostrich meat, hide, feathers and eggs. However, information about the conditions affecting ostriches (Struthio camelus) is still scarce. Aspergillosis is the most common systemic mycosis of avian species (Campbell 1986). Sporadic cases of aspergillosis have been reported in young ostriches (Rousseaux and Dalziel 1981, Terzich and Vanhooser 1993, Marks and others 1994, Fitzgerald and Moisan 1995).
