L'acide N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N'-2-ethanesulfonique (HEPES) joue un role dans la phototoxicite du milieu RPMI 1640 DM. Le mecanisme de la phototoxicite reste a l'elucider. Il reste a determiner si l'effet de l'HEPES est direct ou indirect. L'effet toxique de la lumiere sur le milieu RPMI 1640 DM peut etre elimine completement avec l'addition de 2 nM de pyruvate de sodium a la culture
