A modified SLM scheme with low complexity for reducing the PAPR of OFDM systems without side information

Selected mapping (SLM) scheme is an attractive technique to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. However it requires both huge computational complexity and the transmission of side information. In this paper, a novel set of CMs is proposed and a modified SLM scheme with our proposed conversion matrices (CMs) for practical OFDM systems is also presented. It is shown that, the modified SLM scheme with the proposed CMs can avoid the transmission of side information with very low complexity. On the other hand, since the elements of each applied phase rotation vector have constant magnitudes, the modified SLM scheme can also achieve better bit error rate (BER) performance at the cost of a little degraded PAPR reduction performance as compared with that of the previous work by Wang and Ouyang.
