Investigation of motor drive mechanism of high voltage circuit breakers

This paper presents a type of operating mechanism in which the high voltage circuit breaker (HVCB) is driven by a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) to improve the HVCB working reliability and achieve full control of the operating process. A simulation model of the motor control system was established in MATLAB/Simulink,with a hardware system consisting of a breaker,a PMSM and its control device based on TMS320F2812 DSP controller built to test the motor drive mechanism. A total digital position servo system was established by implementing the vector control algorithm in the DSP,with the breaker travel curve fully controlled by controlling the motor. Simulations and tests indicated that the motion of the HVCB is well controlled and the motor drive mechanism can meet the requirements for opening and closing HVCB operation.
