Decision support interfaces

Due to the explosive information flows in the last decade, and due to the requirement to reduce manning, the Royal Netherlands Navy is aiming to introduce to a greater extent improved automation within the future combat information centers. The large information flows that have to be processed, integrated, and interpreted by humans poses particular problems in the areas of situation awareness and decision making. The Basic-T display concept has undergone extensive user testing and evaluation with domain experts from the Royal Netherlands Navy. During the evaluations, domain experts were confronted with several demanding scenarios. We recorded eye movements, subjective workload measures, and subjective assessment of the display components by the experts. Domain specialists indicated that the use of these tools lead to better and faster decisions
