The High Bridges

To the Editor:— In your otherwise passable commentary on suicides among physicians ( 194 :1257, 1965) reference was made to the San Francisco Bay bridge as an instrumental route to suicide. Actually, you mean the Golden Gate bridge. Hardly anyone uses the Bay Bridge ever (or, hardly ever), despite the fact that it is possible for a San Franciscan to commit suicide free, whereas on the Golden Gate bridge he must pay a toll. On the Bay Bridge, the toll is collected on the Oakland side, making it expensive to the Oaklander. On the Golden Gate bridge it costs 25¢ just to get onto the bridge, regardless of what happens later.
