Floating-point data acquisition system with improved noise immunity

Quantization of high dynamic range signals in the presence of periodic noise is a challenging task nowadays. Floating-point analog-to-digital converters were conceived for the acquisition of signals with a broad span of magnitudes, but they proved to be quite inefficient when the acquired signals are jammed with periodic noise of comparable amplitude. This paper presents a new hybrid floating-point analog-to-digital converter that compensates periodic noises of variable frequency by employing an integrated ADC for the quantization of small signals.
