Process model for generative assembly planning in the highly iterative product development

Abstract Shorter product life cycles require a higher number of testable prototypes to allow a rapid customer feedback to be integrated into the development process. One possible solution is to offer highly iterative product development processes. Due to the high number of prototypes, the repetitive planning runs increase the planning efforts in the assembly. There is also uncertainty which of the share of the planning is still valid for the planning of the series assembly process. This paper introduces a new approach for information structuring on the basis of a process model, which enables a gradual-generative design of the assembly planning.
