Next Generation Network(NGN)is not a single architecture but a setof architectures with a common set of principles and hence varies byservice provider history,target applications and assets.The paperintroduces NGN functional requirements,NGN services and NGNarchitectural features.It also discusses why NGN is needed,whenNGN is targeted,NGN trends and NGN deployment.It concludes thatit is no longer a case whether NGN is needed but rather when andat what speed of the evolution.
