Ground-Borne Vibrations in Buildings Near Subways

Abstract A simple method for predicting excitation levels due to ground-borne vibrations in buildings near subways is presented. The method is based on approximate impedance formulae for the tunnel and the structure and simple energy considerations. Comparisons between calculations and measurements on scale models show that, despite the simplifying assumptions made, the predictions are acceptable for design purposes.
