Sample manipulation in micro total analytical systems

The ability to control small volumes of a liquid around a network of interconnecting channels has been required since the miniaturisation of chemical analysis was envisaged. The techniques used to manipulate samples are essential in the development of a fully integrated micro total analysis system (μTAS). The fundamental and novel approaches of sample manipulation in μTAS have been reviewed and show the trends currently being explored by scientists in the field.
