Quasi-peak response of EMI receiver to corona pulses

A method to get the quasi-peak (QP) response of EMI receiver to inputs of corona pulses is presented. The present method is a dynamic simulation method which can produce the instantaneous QP response step by step in time domain. The validity of the method is verified by comparing the calculated results with the CISPR specifications as well as with the measured results of an EMI receiver. Based on the method, the dependences of the QP EMI receiver response on pulse repetition rate, on pulse amplitude as well as on measurement frequency are discussed. The discussion arrives at some useful conclusions for input of periodic corona pulses: (1) the pulse repletion rate affect the QP reading to a larger degree in the low repetition rate range than that in the high repetition rate range; (2) QP reading is linear with the pulse amplitude; (3) the dependence of QP reading on frequency is similar to that of the individual corona pulse spectrum. This method is of great value in applications of deriving the quasi-peak values of corona-generated radio interference from the measured corona pulses.
