Determination of the contact area between the rolling tools and the workpiece in cross rolling process

Abstract The paper presents new formulas to determine projections of the contact area between the workpiece and the rolling tool in cross wedge rolling depending on the basic geometrical parameters: stretching angle β, forming angle α and relative reduction of a portion δ (characterised by the ratio of a workpiece original diameter D to a forging diameter after rolling d ; δ = D / d ). The experiments prove proper accordance between the measurements and the theoretically obtained values.
