If this book were a detective novel, then this chapter would probably start something like this: “It was raining so heavily that Cressey could barely make out the dim orange glow filtering through the grubby curtains of the apartment across the road....” Then it would set the scene and start to introduce the characters. As you read further, you’d begin to see how these characters interact with one another, and you’d learn more about their individual personality traits and what part each one plays in the story. Soon, you’d begin to get a mental picture of what the plot was about and how each character fits into it; the picture would grow as you immersed yourself in the story. Finally, as the book progressed toward a climax, you’d see all the various characters interacting to produce that final nail-biting outcome.
