HARTRAN: A digital description language

Abstract A hardware description language, HARTRAN, is described and an application to the design of logic system illustrated. The language is based on FORTRAN and uses the same character set, so that a HARTRAN-based design system may be implemented with a modest investment in software development and training. Parallel operations and their description are an integral part of the language. The use of HARTRAN at the top level of design should fill an important gap in the designer's repertoire and bring increased confidence and precision to the early stages of complex designs.
