FROM DATABASE SYSTEMS TO INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS - A REQUIREMENT FOR COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLY

The importance of databases and data management in automated manufacturing and assembly systems is now well-recognized in manufacturing science. Information, and its control, presents the integrating and coordinating influence on the system. Currently available database systems do not provide the capabilities desirable in future systems.
