A network system model for an institute of higher education

Here, in this paper, an institution for higher education has been considered as an “Educational System” and a state space model describing the behavioural characteristics of the system has been developed In the first part, Zemach’s educational system model has been reconsidered and an attempt has been made to show that the linear graph theory as applied to electrical networks or other physical systems can very well be applied to a socio-economic system such as an educational system and useful results can be obtained thereby. In the second part, the model has been identified and parameterised in operational and empirical terms for the case of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. In conclusion, the potentialities of the system modelling construct employed here are briefly highlighted for the purpose of simulation and optimisation studies of complex educational systems of today.
