A Novel Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive Control Strategy Based on Off-line Calculation and Curve Fitting

Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) machines are advantageous over other kind for their wide-speed range operation by field-weakening technique. The proposed off-line calculation and curve fitting based IPM motor drive control strategy can achieve seamless transition between normal and field-weakening operations and maintaining minimum winding current. The detailed current reference generation algorithm using MATLAB curve fitting toolbox is presented. The control diagrams with the implementation of proposed strategy are also demonstrated in two cases which are real motor operation and pump-back operation. PLECS simulations have been conducted under both cases and a pump-back hardware test bench has been constructed and experimental results have been presented showing the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
