During the preliminary design of modern air vehicles, accurate representation of flight control logic in structural design is imperative to avoid under design or weight penalties. The capability to assess the structural weight sensitivities to flight control logic gives the opportunity to include them in control law development. This paper describes the implementation of a generic flight control system into ASTROS (Automated Structural Optimization System). Presented first is background information which motivated this technology integration, followed by a technical discussion of the control system algorithms and implementation. Two example cases are presented to verify and demonstrate the capabilities of this new feature.
