Quality of Work Life among the Employees of Commercial Banks in Erode District-An Empirical Evaluation

Quality of work life has become one of the essential concerns among contemporary corporate employees and employers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of work life among the commercial bank employees and the various factors influencing the quality of work life.. Stratified sampling technique is employed in the study with a sample size of 596 from the population of 2008 in the five taluks of Erode District, constituting the employees working in the branches of both the private and public banks. The data were analyzed with the help of statistical tools such as percentage analysis, two way tables, Chi-square Test, Univariate tools, regression analysis, factor analysis and structural equation modelling and Henry Garat ranking. It could be noted from the study findings on private sector commercial bank employees they felt good quality of work life than the public sector employees. Public sector management should gratify their employees by offering equivalent facilities to augment their quality of work life which leads to increase in work commitment among the employees in banks in the study area. Transforming the workplace proactively using a combination of well designed quality of work life initiatives for their employees will yield competitive advantage as it will increase employee job satisfaction. This in turn will motivate the employees to perform in superior way, leading the commercial banks to a better future by yielding the expected outcome.
