Observation of the hydrogen peak in the spectra of electrons backscattered from polyethylene

The energy distribution of electrons backscattered elastically from polyethylene is studied. The separation between the carbon and hydrogen peak in the energy distribution is shown. Furthermore, the effect of the multiple scattering on the energy shifts and Doppler broadenings is determined using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. Our MC simulations are in good agreement with our experimental observations. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
