State of the Art Study Antitank Miss Distance Indication System

Abstract : The study was conducted by the US Army Infantry Board (USAIB), Fort Benning, Georgia, to determine the most feasible approach to obtain the capability for measuring the miss distance and direction of antitank missiles fired in day, night and all weather conditions at stationary and moving targets. The study pertains to the feasibility of instrumentation design for subsonic antitank projectiles. It was directed on the basis that there is no available MDI system that provides X and Y coordinates under all conditions previously stated. The study was to determine the state-of-the-art of miss distance scoring in all services for all types of projectiles. By using this open approach all existing methods and their combinations were examined for possible solutions.
