Blank shape analysis for heavy gauge metal forming

Abstract A method is described for mapping a three-dimensional computer modelled surface into the two-dimensional plane, in order to predict blank shapes. Forming by press-brake bending is evaluated. Geometrically unfolding the surface enables strains to be predicted. These are used to adjust the initial constant area mapping hypothesis. Practical strain analysis is also conducted.
