Optimum Control Heights for Sitting Crosslegged and Kneeling

The purpose of this study was to assess comfortable heights for manually operated control levers on underground mining machines for operators who either sit crosslegged or kneel. Two groups of subjects (students and human factors experts) adjusted horizontal and vertical lever controls with either 5 1b or 15 1b resistance in the two work postures. The results showed a significant difference between the groups of subjects. This difference is discussed and comfortable control heights are recommended.
