Ergonomics of CAD Systems

Publisher Summary Experiences of CAD users show a gap between the goals and reality of CAD implementation. Also, experiments in different design departments verify deficiencies in the use of advantages of the functional capacities of CAD systems. This is one reason for the poor performance in producing technical drawings. In a design department, there is neither a question of the rationalization goal nor the implementation of CAD systems. Today, the characteristics of a CAD system, which are important to improve, are the adequacy to task requirements and the adaptation to different user qualifications. If ergonomic design rules are ignored, the consequence will be a low design efficiency and a higher strain level. Any ergonomics approach to solve an ergonomic design problem begins with an analytical procedure to identify and systematize the features and characteristics of the respective work or task.
