The Fourier transform of a voltammetric peak and its use in resolution enhancement

Abstract The theory presented shows how the Fourier transform of a voltammetric peak can be utilized for finding peak parameters and enhancing the resolution. It is based on the assumption that the voltammetric or polarographic peak can be described by the sech 2 -function. Potential uses of the Fourier transform of this function are discussed, but the main theme is resolution enhancement. New deconvolution-convolution functions for this purpose are introduced. It is possible to retain either the height of the original peak, or the area under it, by choosing the correct deconvolution function.
