Thermal Comfort Feelings Assessment Based on Digital Signal Processor

In this paper, a new technique is being proposed to estimate the PMV by using an array of sensors for the automatic control of thermal sensation scale of the air conditioning system. The predicted mean vote (PMV) is a well recognized thermal comfort index and is used for measuring comfort level inside the conditioned space. It is a mathematical function dependent on air temperature, relative humidity, mean air speed, mean radiant temperature, clothing insulation and human activity level. These parameters influence the comfort level. The air temperature and relative humidity are the main affecting factor of the thermal comfort level. The real time thermal comfort measurement work has been regarded as difficult so far. In this paper we are trying to look into the problem of real time air temperature (inside room) and relative humidity measurement using a DSP board based on TMS320C6455 processor. These set of sensors has been tested successfully. The collected data are used to calculate the PMV value. The deviation of calculated and observed PMV values is represents the energy saving potential for air conditioning system. Therefore, it was found that such measurement technique can be used effectively to address this type of complicated measurement.
